Thank you to all the children who came to VBS, the parents who let them come (& brought them) and the volunteers who worked so hard and gave so much of their time to make it a success. Also, a HUGE thanks to all who emptied their change jars and brought in so much change throughout the week. With your extreme generosity, we raised $201.68 for UMCOR!!!
The kids at Maker Fun Factory VBS were so amazingly generous with their offerings through the week! The total tally of the coin offering for the week came to $347.90!!! And the offering taken during the closing program brought in another $110! With that generosity, we were able to present the 'Just for Kickz' organization with $457.90!!! Wow, God!!! Thank you to all the children and families who supported such a great organization!!!
Maker Fun Factory lived up to it's name! It was a TON of FUN! Not just for the kids, but for the adults who worked with the kids! We couldn't have been happier with how well things went, and with how great the turnout was (Edgerton has some of the most amazing and awesome kids on the planet, and we are SO glad they joined us for VBS!!!)
Throughout the week, the kids learned new songs of praise and worship, had a blast playing fun games, learned some great Bible stories (which they got to actively participate in!), created their own snacks each evening, and learned some important and awesome truths about themselves and about our awesome and amazing maker, God! To summarize what we learned this week, we learned that:
God made us, and we are all special and unique and equally amazing! God loves us so much that he is always on our side, he loves us so much that he sent his very own son to die for our sins so that we can be forgiven and have eternal life, if we just come to him and ask for forgiveness. We learned that each of us has special gifts, traits, skills, which were given to us by God. And he gave us those gifts for a reason- he wants us to use those gifts to bring more people to Christ, so that they can have the same eternal life which we have!
We also took an offering the week of VBS. We wanted the kids to see that they are never too young or too small to make a difference to others. So we chose an organization called "Just for Kickz" to be the recipient of our offering. "Just for Kickz" is run by a 12 year old girl in Montpelier, OH, and gives new socks and new or gently used shoes to homeless people and those in need. In the spirit of competitiveness, we ran a contest with the offering; boys vs. girls. We encouraged the kids to bring their offering in in coins, as we based the contest on weight rather than on dollar amount. The kids really got into it (one evening we even found boys standing at the entrance asking everyone coming in if they had offering- we joked that we wondered if they were going to try to prevent girls from coming in if they did have offering!). The winning team was announced at the closing program, and it just so happened to work out as a perfect tie, so both teams won! The winners all received handmade rocket ship banks, which our volunteers painted and assembled in the months leading up to VBS. Below are some photos from throughout the week of VBS.
On Sunday, October 9, we took a 'field trip' (quite literally!). The day began with a stop to Commons Park in Angola, IN for a picnic lunch and a chance to play on the playground. After lunch, we drove to Ridenour Acres in Angola, where we spent a couple hours having fun experiencing all the fun things they offered! The kids (and adult chaperones) had a great time finding their way through the corn maze, climbing the straw bale tower, playing in the corn pit, sliding down the big slides, racing on bouncy balls or tricycles, riding the barrel 'train', and taking a hay ride (and those are just a few of the many, MANY things we did)!!!! It was a fun (& exhausting) day, with a lot of smiles and laughter all around!
We feel it's important for kids to know what it's like to be a participant in church, but we also understand it's a lot to ask of kids to sit quietly for an hour. So children attending our church begin the service upstairs with everyone- but only for the first few minutes. After announcements and a song or two, we have a children's moment (a very short child focused lesson for the kids), and then the children go downstairs, where our children's church teachers have crafts, games & activities planned out for them. Our children LOVE children's church! Whether it's making a craft, playing pool or table tennis, building a castle or a fort, or having a 'snowball' fight (even in the summer!), the kids always know they will have fun!
